Andrew Tate ( born December 1, 1986 in Washington, DC as Emory Andrew Tate III ) [1] is a British-American entrepreneur and former kickboxer who gained notoriety primarily as an influencer through social media . His chauvinistic and misogynist statements repeatedly caused controversy.

Tate was born in the United States to chess player Emory Tate . His father is American and his mother is British . [2] He spent most of his childhood in Luton , England ; [3] he is a British citizen. [4]
As a kickboxer, Tate won his first international title in 2011 and was a two-weight division champion in 2013, considered the pinnacle of his career. [2]
In 2015, Tate was arrested in the UK on suspicion of rape and violence, but this remained without legal consequences. During the investigation, he was allowed to take part in the reality show Big Brother for five days in June 2016 . It was not until the beginning of the show that production company Endemol were informed that Hertfordshire Police were investigating criminal charges against Tate. [5] His participation in Big Brother contributed to his reputation as an "internet celebrity". [6]
Tate moved to Romania in 2017 [4] and built a number of casinos . On December 29, 2022, Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking , rape and organized crime by order of the Romanian Special Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) at their home in Voluntari near Bucharest . Tate was one of the most searched people on Google worldwide in 2022. [12] Its target group is attributed, among other things, to the Manosphere , [11] and its contributions are credited with influencing the spread of misogynistic attitudes among young people. [3] [11] [13] The British children's rights organization NSPCC found that by consuming Tate's content children could change their attitudes "which may result in more violence against women and girls , both in real life and online. Masculinity researcher Luc Cousineau classifies Tate 's machinations as typical of the neoliberal capitalist culture in which men define their self-worth in part through power over others, in Tate's case power over women. [18]
